Peter Tosh

Peter Tosh was born in a rural community called Westmoreland - Jamaica - on 19 October 1944, at 15 years old moved to the capital of Jamaica, Kingston. Soon he met Bob Marley and Bunny (Wailer) Livingstone, forming a strong friendship with them, who later joined as the vocal trio "Wailing Wailers". In the beginning Peter tosh was the one who had some knowledge as both musical instrument level, teaching Bob and Bunny playing the guitar. In 1965 they had 5 songs in the top 10 songs in Jamaica. In 1972 Chris Blackwell, president of "Island Records" signed with the trio, who originated "Catch a Fire," "Stop That Train" and "400 Years". In Jamaica they opened several concerts with superstars such as "The Jackson Five" and Marvin Gaye. In 1974 due to internal problems within the group (all three had the potential to be the "Lead Vocal Trio"), eventually separate to begin solo careers. The year 1976 was the time of publication of the 1st album Tosh solo - "Legalize It" - the controversial song was immediately banned from radio stations Jamaican, but it was one of the LPs best-seller ever in the history of music Jamaican. After "Legalize it" more classics were built by Tosh among them highlight "Equal Rights". In 1978 Peter Tosh is almost beaten to death by police during the "One Love Peace Concert "because the words addressed to the Jamaican Prime Minister. Tosh comes out of Jamaica to go live to the United States and the invitation from Mick Jagger joins Rolling Stones Records, this collaboration is released the album "Bush Doctor" which includes a duet with Mick Jagger "Don`t Look Back". The 2nd album out through the Rolling Stones Records was the "Mystic Man" which contains in addition to the superb "Mystic Man", also "The Day the Dollar Die" and "Buk-in-Hamm Palace". Also Eric Clapton was a fan of Tosh to the point of doing a duet with him at the Music "Watch You Gonna Do". In 1981 launched my favorite song ever by Tosh "Fools Die". It follows on the 1983 "Mama Africa" which includes the brilliant song that gives name to the album and of course the-familiar "Johnny B Goode" a cover of Chuck Berry classic. Between 1983 and 1987 Tosh just traveling through Africa, gave a few concerts and recovering from abuse suffered by the police several times. In this period musical at nothing recorded, except in 1987 the album "No Nuclear War" which earned a Grammy. Unfortunately shortly after the release of the album the September 11, 1987, Tosh and 2 more people are murdered at his home in Kingston, (always said it would have been a mere assault but ...).

Fortunately, his soul still very much alive, and their music even after 24 years, continue to give very, very, to say ...

Peter Tosh picked up this rock and roll song in 1983 for the album "Mama Africa" by giving his personal touch, with the reggae sound.

Deep down in Jamaica close to Mandeville
Back up in the woods on top of a hill
There stood an old hut made of earth and wood
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B Goode
He never learned to read or write so well
But he could play his guitar like ringin' a bell yell

Said go, go Johnny!
Johnny be good tonight!
Said go, go Johnny!
Johnny B. Goode...

He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack
Sitting in a tree in the railroad track
Old engineer in the train sitting in the shade
Strummin' with the rhythm that them drivers made
People passing by would stop and say
Oh my oh my what the boy can play

Said go, go Johnny!
Johnny be good tonight!
Said go, go Johnny!
Johnny B. Goode...

Mama said son you gotta be a man
You gotta be the leader of a reggae band
People coming in from miles around
To hear you play until the sun goes down
Boy someday your name will be in the lights
Saying Johnny B Goode tonight

I said go, go Johnny!
Johnny be good tonight!
Said go, go Johnny!
Johnny you better be good

Said go, go Johnny!
Johnny be good tonight!
Go, go Johnny!
Johnny B. Goode...

Peter Tosh - No Nuclear War

"No Nuclear War" is song that gives name to the 7th and final album by Peter Tosh. Launched in 1987, and is winner of the 30th Annual GRAMMY Awards in the category Best Reggae Recording

No Nuclear War
We don't want no nuclear war
With nuclear war we won't get far
I said that We don't want no nuclear war
With nuclear war we won't get far

Said no, just another holocaust
It's just another holocaust
And we can't take no more
(CHORUS)

Too many people are hungry
They don't have food to eat
They are naked
'Cause they don't have clothes to wear

They are going insane
Because of the condition
A million babies
Are suffering from malnutrition

CHORUS
I can't take no more

I saw WWI
Where lotsa trouble begun
I saw WWII
When the pirates came right through

Lookin' for WWIII
But you got to set me free
Free from the chains
And this here misery

CHORUS
We can't take no more

Unemployment
I said the rate is high
So much sick people
I'm sure they gonna die

So much mad people
Gettin' ready to explode
'Fore somebody
Come help them carry this load

CHORUS

One country deploying MX
Another country deploying SS
Inflation goin' way up high
And the dollar is going way down low

CHORUS

Crying, bawling, they can't take no more
I hear them moaning they can't take no more
They don't wanna die
They want to go to Heaven, yeah

But they can't
They can't take no more
They gettin' low
They can't take no more

They gettin' grief
They can't take no more
They gettin' beat
They can't take no more

They gettin' lazy
Cause They can't take no more
Bored
They can't take no more

Frustrated
They can't take no more
Pleading for them
They can't take no more

Can't you hear me pleading for them
Cause They can't take no more

They want to live in peace
And happiness
Let the trees grow
Let the waters flow...

Music belongs to the 2nd album by the Rolling Stones Records "Mystic Man" and 4th album of your personal account, launched in 1979 which included other hits like "Buk-in-Hamm Palace" and "Mystic Man"

I see Johnny with his head hanging down
Wondering how many schillings left in that pound
Cost of living it is rising so high
Dollar see that have heart attack and die

Bills and budgets are waiting
Finance ministers anticipating
Unemployment is rising
And I hear my people, they're crying

The day the dollar die
Things are gonna be better
The day the dollar die
No more corruption
The day the dollar die
People will respect eachother
The day the dollar die

Tell me brother
Is there something I can do
Don't you let frustrations make you blue

Time is hard
And I know that is true
But if you pick yourself up
That's all you've got to do

Things can be much better
If we can come together
Long time we been divided
And it's time we be inited

The day the dollar die
Gonna be better
The day the dollar die
I won't need no pockets
The day the dollar die
Don't have to be frettin'
The day the dollar die

Now I see you standing on your feet
And you can also make two ends meet
Never you let life problems get you down
There is always a solution to be found

Bills and budgets are mourning
Finance ministers groaning
Unemployment is rising
And I hear my people crying from the ghetto

The day the dollar die
It's gonna be nice
The day the dollar die
Just you wait and see
The day this here dollar die
There be no more inflation
The day the dollar die

I say the day Danny dollar die
The day Sammy dollar die
We will love eachother
I said the day this a dollar die
Fight some inflation

This music is part of the first album recorded in the Rolling Stones Records, with the name "Bush Doctor" launched in 1978. This song is a duet between Peter Tosh and Mick Jagger.

If it's love that you're running from
There is no hiding place
Just your problems, no one else's problems
You just have to face

If you just put your hand in mine
We're gonna leave all our troubles behind
Gonna walk and don't look back
Gonna walk and don't look back

Now if your first lover let you down
There's something that can be done
Don't kill your faith in love
Remembering what's become

Places behind you, there to remind you

Now if your first lover let you down
There's something that can be done
Gonna heal your faith in love
Remembering what's been done

Now if your first lover let you down
There's something that can be done
Gonna heal your faith in love
Remembering what's been done

How far you been walkin' now about hundred miles
You still got some more to walk
I know, I got a little more to go

I'm gettin' kind of tired but I got to keep on walkin'
I'm walkin' barefoot
You've got to walk and don't look back

But fools die for want of wisdom
The rich man's wealth is in the city

Vexation of the soul is vanity
Destruction of the poor is their poverty
The poor man's wealth is in a holy, holy place

Why do you fight eachother
Why do you kill your brother
Then your reward will be the cemetery

Then your reward will be the cemetery

We got to build a better nation
Clean up, clean up Jah creation
Or there will be no future for you, you and me

What is Reggae?

Reggae is a musical genre originally developed in Jamaica in the late 1950s. While sometimes used in a broader sense to refer to most types of music Jamaican the term reggae more specifically indicates a particular type of music that originated the development of ska and rocksteady. The pinnacle of reggae occurred in the 1970s, when this genre spread throughout the world.
It features a danceable rhythm and smooth, but with a very characteristic beat. The guitar, bass and drums are the most used musical instruments.
The lyrics of reggae songs speak of social issues, especially the Jamaicans, and highlight religious issues and problems typical of poor countries.
Reggae is constantly associated with the Rastafarian religious movement, which, in fact, influenced many of the apologists style reggae musicians in the 1970s and 1980s. Anyway, thereggae deals with various matters, not restricted to the Rastafarian culture, such as love, sex and especially social criticism.
In the 1950s, began to appear the big names in reggae, for example, Delroy Wilson, Bob Andy, Burning Espear and Johnny Osbourne and the bands The Wailers, Ethiopians, Desmond Dekker and Skatalites. At this time, most radio stations in Jamaica, owned by white people, refused to play reggae. Only since the 1970s, reggae takes shape, with singers who make the music world. Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley reggae style make the hit musical worldwide. In 1971, the song I Can See Clear Now Johnny Nash takes the top on the list of various music radio in Britain and the United States.
The 70s (1970s) was the era of the great success of reggae. Several songs epoch and reached the top of the list of successful radio: with Peter Tosh Legalize It and No Woman, No Cry by Bob Marley.
Several singers and bands pass to incorporate the style of reggae from the '80s (the 1980s). Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones and Paul Simon make music, using danceable beat and sound and smooth. Currently, several singers and bands are successful in this genre: Ziggy Marley, Beres Hammond, Pulse, UB 40 and Big Mountain.

Peter Tosh - Legalize It

'' Legalize It'', the first solo album by Peter Tosh, released on Virgin Records in 1976, proved he was a talented artist and great vision was far-reaching enough to break through the small confines of his small native island of Jamaica, spreading his music around the world, and enjoyed great critical acclaim, the album is even more popular today than when it was first launched. At the time of first release of the album title song'' Legalize It'' was banned on radio in Jamaica for advocating the legalization of cannabis
